Foundation CEO Doug Tystad and Deputy Commandant Brig. Gen. John Kem (right) congratulate Mr. Kevin E. Gentzler from the Department of Command and Leadership upon his selection as 2015 Civilian Instructor of the Year.

I would like to personally congratulate the 2015 CGSC Civilian and Military Instructors of the Year that were announced on Tuesday, Nov. 24 in Eisenhower Auditorium. CGSC Deputy Commandant/ArmyU Provost Brig. Gen. John Kem and CGSC Dean of Academics Dr. Wendall King presented the awards for 2015 Civilian and Military Instructor of the Year respectively to Mr. Kevin E. Gentzler from the Department of Command and Leadership and Lt. Col. Christopher Springer

The selection criteria and process was very demanding and included submission of a nomination packet of information, observation of a class, and interview. The department directors and faculty that I talked to afterward said that while the field of candidates from each department was of exceptional quality, the two winners were clearly impressive and deserving of the award. The CGSC Foundation provides an engraved wooden office chair to each of the award winners in recognition of their superb performance as instructors at CGSC. While the chairs are impressive, I think both Mr. Gentzler and Lt. Col. Springer were just as impressed with the front row parking place in the faculty lot. Congratulations to all of the nominees and special congratulations to the Mr. Gentzler and Lt. Col. Springer!

Foundation CEO Doug Tystad congratulates Lt. Col. Christopher Springer and presents him with a College chair upon his selection as 2015 CGSC Military Instructor of the Year.

The CGSC Foundation encourages excellence in the faculty and the student body through sponsorship of awards for outstanding performance while at CGSC. In this most recent issue of the Foundation News, which should hit the stands within the next week, we show the awards that were presented to the Class of 2015 and highlight those awards sponsored by the Foundation. We currently have three permanently endowed awards – the Maj. Gen. Hans Schlup Award for the Outstanding International Officer as voted by his or her peers, sponsored by a grant from General Schlup’s classmates from the Class of ’78; the Lt. Col. Boyd MaCana “Mac” Harris Outstanding Leadership Award endowed by a grant from Gary and Moira Sinise; and the Lt. Col. Ron Ward Distinguished Special Operations Forces (SOF) Student Graduate Award endowed by a grant in his memory by the Ward family. The Foundation sponsors more than 60 percent of the awards for CGSC’s Command and General Staff School (CGSS) and all of the awards for CGSC’s School for Advanced Military Studies (SAMS). We are pleased to be able to recognize outstanding performances by faculty and students.

I would like to wish each of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and hope that you enjoy the holiday and the long weekend. Take the time to remember those that have given in order for us to be able to celebrate and give thanks for the blessings we enjoy in this great country.
