Secretary of the Army Dr. Mark T. Esper hosted a ceremony April 16, 2018, to swear in the newest class of appointed CASAs during the “Civilian Aides to the Secretary of the Army Investiture Ceremony” at the Hall of Heroes inside the Pentagon, Washington D.C.
Hockley assumes the CASA position for the eastern region of Kansas from Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Robert Arter, the former chair of the Foundation, who served as the Kansas (East) CASA since November 2005. (See the April 2018 Persons of the Month article for details.)
CASA’s are business and community leaders who help bridge the gap between their local communities and the U.S. Army. They promote good relations between the Army and the public and advise the secretary about regional issues. Each state, the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories have one or more CASAs appointed. They serve a two-year term without compensation and their terms may be extended to a total of 10 years. The secretary may recognize a civilian aide as a CASA Emeritus after 10 years of service with distinguished service.
Along with Hockley, there were eight new CASAs sworn in during the ceremony:
- Ms. Tammy Carnrike- Michigan (South)
- Ms. Susan Shugert Green- Ohio (Central)
- Mr. Michael Hockley- Kansas (East)
- Mr. Timothy Jones- Alaska (North)
- Mr. Eric Mansfield- Ohio (North)
- Mr. Kevin Offel- Oklahoma (North)
- Mr. Charles Rice- Louisiana (South)
- Mr. James Tyre- Florida (Northeast)
The CGSC Foundation staff and board of trustees congratulate Foundation Chair Mike Hockley for this honor.
