The CGSC Foundation has selected Kelsey Busch, Susan Plotner and Dan Barbuto of Fort Leavenworth’s Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library (CARL) as the “Persons of the Month” for March 2018.
“The Foundation is pleased to support the CARL Library and their innovative programs. The staff at the CARL Library continually comes up with clever ideas for the reading program that children love—jugglers, science projects, super heroes and of course, Dr. Seuss,” said Foundation Director of Operations Ann Soby. “This year the Library will be introducing Book Clubs which will give groups an opportunity to read and share their thoughts about current books. The CARL library is what I call ‘imagination central’ for everyone.”
The Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library (CARL) supports staff, faculty and students of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College as well as the community at Fort Leavenworth. The CARL provides support and materials for information needs, personal development, and recreation. The library houses a Special Collections and Archives, which exists to preserve and make available CGSC, Fort Leavenworth and other historical materials. In 2003, the CARL was first among Army libraries to start digitizing its unique collections and make them readily available in a Digital Library, which to date has over 34,000 items to include Masters of Military Art and Science theses and School of Advanced Military Studies monographs. The CARL’s role as the post library for Fort Leavenworth allows the library to host a Summer Reading Program for children of all ages each summer, as well as fun family events throughout the year. From research assistance to toddler story times, the CARL strives to provide the community with useful information resources and an understanding of effective ways to use these resources for soldiers, their families, and the DoD community.
We salute Kelsey Busch, Susan Plotner and Dan Barbuto from the CARL library for their outstanding work and their support of the CGSC Foundation mission in support of the College. – They are truly deserving of our recognition as “Persons of the Month” for March 2018.
