Into the new year

Into the new year

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday break as much as I did. I have talked to a number of students and faculty that were grateful for the break but were slowly getting back into the swing of the academic requirements. The Class of 2016 is on the downward slide, the end is in sight, assignments are starting to firm up, electives are about to begin, and students will have their cars idling in the parking lots on graduation day before they know it! That’s the rhythm of the college.

I sent a year in review to Lt. Gen. Brown, the CGSC Commandant, and the College leadership, which highlighted our programs and mission support throughout the year and some of the things we intend to add for 2016. If you’re interested in reading it, send me an email at dtystad@cgscf.org and I’ll send you a copy. We were very pleased with all of our programs, events, and support in 2015; we’re a small Foundation with a big mission and what I believe is a magnificent staff. We also receive a lot of volunteer help from students, faculty, our Trustees and the College staff for which we are truly grateful.

If you’re looking to support a truly worthy cause, the CGSC Foundation can surely use your gifts.

We need to ask for your help as we move into the new year. The Foundation receives all of our support from individual, corporate, and foundation donors as well as some from bequests. While we have some permanent and temporary restricted grants that cover a number of our programs, we rely on the generosity of others to allow us to meet mission every year. We appreciate everyone’s gifts of time, talent, and treasure. If you’re looking to support a truly worthy cause, the CGSC Foundation can surely use your gifts. We have numerous ways to give.

In the next column, I’ll talk more about our new programs for 2016. We’re in planning stages for Vietnam War 50 year commemoration events; leader development programs with industry; and College outreach events where we take the story about CGSC on the road to help get the word out about the excellence that goes on here every single day. In addition, the Foundation turns ten years old this year. Throughout our first ten years, we’ve given almost $6 million in support of our mission of assisting with the development of military leaders of character and competence for service to the nation. This year CGSC celebrates their 135th anniversary of service to the Army, the nation and the world. We’re pleased that we can celebrate our tenth anniversary in support of this great institution. I hope you can join us in our programs and events this year. Tell us how we’re doing and what you’d like to see more or less of in our programs. – We solicit your feedback by email, phone or in person. – Stop by our office in the Lewis and Clark Center (next to the barber shop) and say hello. See our “Contact Us” page for options on how to reach us.

Again, I wish you all success in the new year. I look forward to another fantastic year of support for CGSC. We’re small, but busy, and dedicated to the mission of CGSC.
