Founding trustee honored on the anniversary of his Medal of Honor

The CGSC Foundation hosted a luncheon on Dec. 5 in honor of retired Col. Roger Donlon on the 50th Anniversary of his award of the Medal of Honor. The luncheon was a complete surprise to him as his wife Norma told him they “were just going to a presentation” at the Riverfront Community Center in downtown Leavenworth, Kan.

Donlon is a founding trustee of the CGSC Foundation and many of the foundation’s current and former trustees were in attendance. Also in attendance were other friends and members of the local chapter of the Special Forces Association. A contingent of the Patriot Guard was there to welcome Roger and Norma and guests to the surprise luncheon. Foundation CEO Doug Tystad was the emcee for the occasion.

A special highlight was the presentation of a quilt made from Roger’s many polo shirts he had collected from Medal of Honor meetings around the country. The quilt was made by Meadows Quilting and Sewing in Leavenworth by Rocky Meadows and her mother Karen Thomas.

Photos of the luncheon are available in the gallery below.
