People to People and their President/Chief Executive Officer Mary Jean Eisenhower have been avid supporters of the CGSC Foundation for several years. Ms. Eisenhower has also served as a trustee of the CGSC Foundation.
“People to People and the People to People Kansas City chapter are great friends of the Foundation and the Command and General Staff College,” said Foundation CEO Doug Tystad. “Their support of sponsors for the international military student program at the College and their support to our annual gala event at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is truly invaluable.”
People to People International was the top sponsor for this year’s “Celebration of International Friendship” at the Kauffman Center on Sept. 16. Their Kansas City chapter has helped the Foundation plan and host the event since its inception three years ago. Mary Jean Eisenhower, granddaughter of PTPI founder President Dwight D. Eisenhower, was one of the key speakers this year.
This year People to People International is celebrating its 60th anniversary. It was started in 1956 as an initiative by President Eisenhower as a program of “personal diplomacy” to establish nongovernmental contacts between people around the globe. With his term of office nearing an end, he sought a way for the organization to be funded in the private sector. President Eisenhower engaged his good friend, J.C. Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, Inc., to help continue this valuable work. Hall agreed, and People to People International (PTPI) was incorporated as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization in the State of Missouri on October 31, 1961, with the offices moving from Washington, D.C., to Kansas City. Eisenhower’s vision to enhance international understanding and friendship translates into action by thousands of members around the world.
The CGSC Foundation is proud to spotlight People to People International for their support of the Foundation and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
