Here is how we handle information about your visit to our website:
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Policy is to explain how the Command and General Staff College Foundation (the Foundation) preserves and protects privacy information collected for support of the Foundation’s website, database, fundraising campaigns and any other privacy information gathered to further the interests of the Foundation.
I. Foundation Websites
It is important to note that the Foundation does not collect any personal information about users unless they knowingly and voluntarily choose to disclose that information.
II. Internet Security Policy
For website security purposes and to ensure that the Foundation websites remain available to all users, our computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage.
Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information to the website are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and other applicable laws.
III. Information Collected and Stored Automatically on the Foundation Websites
If users do nothing during their visit, but browse through the websites, read pages, or download information, the Foundation will gather and store certain information about their visit automatically. This information does not identify the user personally. The Foundation automatically collects and stores only the following information about their visit:
1) The Internet domain (i.e., “xcompany.com” if using a private Internet access account or “yourschool.edu” if connecting from a university’s domain) and IP address (a number that is automatically assigned to a computer whenever surfing the Web) from which a user accesses our websites;
2) The type of browser and operating system used to access our website;
3) The date and time the website was accessed;
4) The pages visited; and
5) If linking to the Foundation Website from another website, the address of that website.
We use this information to help us make our website more useful to visitors — to learn about the number of visitors to our website and the types of technology our visitors use. We do not track or record personal information about individuals and their visits.
IV. Credit Card Information
If an individual user chooses to make a donation through the Foundation’s websites, he or she will need to provide personal information and authorization for us to obtain information from various credit services. The user must provide his or her name, mailing address, billing address, email, credit card information, and telephone number.
The donation field on the Foundation’s website is powered by eTapestry Database Services. Credit card information provided by an individual user is not accessible to the Foundation.
When credit card information is provided through the Foundation’s websites, this is accomplished by establishing a “secure session” using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocols. These protocols encrypt all information before it is sent.
V. “Share/Bookmark” Policy
The Foundation offers website users an option to share articles, pages, or other social media links with colleagues by clicking “Share/Bookmark.” The user must provide his or her email address, as well as the recipient’s email address. This information is used only in case of transmission errors and to let the recipient know who sent the information.
VI. Survey Policy
The Foundation may occasionally conduct user surveys to better target content to our audience. The Foundation sometimes shares the aggregated demographic information collected from these surveys with its members. The Foundation never shares information about specific individuals with any third party.
Consistent with the Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without requesting parental consent.
VII. Foundation News Magazine Policy
The Foundation offers a free biannual magazine to its members. Therefore, we gather the mailing addresses of members who voluntarily subscribe. Members may remove themselves from this mailing list by contacting the Foundation at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling (913) 651-0624.
The Foundation does not rent, sell, or share any personal information about individual users with any third party, including advertisers, sponsors or partners, except to provide the products or services a user has requested or to send the users’ information consistent with our charitable purpose.
VIII. Donors and Corporate Sponsors
The Foundation collects contact information from individuals and corporations that provide financial or in-kind contributions. This information is housed in a secure server and is not shared with any third party, including advertisers, sponsors or partners, except when necessary to process a required transaction.
IX. Use of Information
The Foundation uses information that Trustees, Command and General Staff College students and personnel voluntarily provide in order to send out biannual magazines, appeals and to enable participation in polls, surveys, message boards and forums. The Foundation never shares its mailing lists or other contact information with any third party, including advertisers, sponsors or partners.
X. Sharing the Information
The Foundation uses the above-described information to tailor our content and help us better understand our members’ demographics. We will not share information about individual users with any third party, except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public (explained in further detail below).
The Foundation reserves the right to disclose your personally identifiable information to respond to a subpoena, court order or other legal process, to defend the Foundation against legal claims, or if the Foundation determines it is necessary to investigate or take action in connection with activities that the Foundation suspects are illegal or threatens the safety of any person.
From time to time, the Foundation may share private and confidential contact information with Trustees, committee members and ad hoc working groups to further the interest of the Foundation. This information shall not be used for any commercial purposes.
The Foundation operates within commercially secure data networks protected by industry standard firewall and password protection systems. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary and only authorized individuals have access to the information provided by our users.

We give users options wherever necessary and practical including:
- Opting in to register to receive our magazine, automated mailings and notices.
- Opting not to register to receive our magazine, automated mailings and notices.
