The CGSC Mentor Program started the new academic year with a networking event at the Frontier Army Museum, Aug. 20, 2025. The event was supported by the CGSC Foundation and Alumni Association. Angela Remington and Matt Anderson from the Leavenworth First Command office graciously provided snacks and beverages. Approximately 50 students, mentors, supporters, and family members gathered to learn about the program.

This is the first in a series of CGSC Mentor Program events that the CGSC Foundation and Alumni Association is supporting this academic year. The program’s aim is to provide students access to faculty and alumni that they might not meet otherwise. The Army definition of mentorship precludes a student’s instructors from serving as mentors for their students during the course. Additionally, the pace of the rigorous master’s program in the Command and General Staff Officers Course may prevent students from having access to alumni who can serve in a mentorship role. These events help create a time and location for volunteer mentors and students to connect. Helping foster professional relationships between students and alumni continues to be part of the Foundation’s core mission in support of this program.
Future CGSC Mentor Program events include another networking opportunity at Jowler Creek Vinyard and Winery on Sept. 12 at 4:30 p.m., as well as scheduled events in the CGSC Mentor Program Educational Series. The first event in the educational series is scheduled for Sept. 16 at 12:30 p.m. in rooms 1138/39 in the Lewis and Clark Center. The topic is “Mentoring – What is your role now?” Future educational series events are scheduled for Oct. 9 and Nov. 6, at the same time and location.
