SUMMARY:Colin L. Powell Lecture Series – Aug. 26
DESCRIPTION:The Colin L. Powell Lecture for the CGSC class of 2027 is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.\, Aug. 26\,  in the Eisenhower Auditorium of the Lewis and Clark Center. General David G. Perkins\, U.S. Army\, Retired\, will present this year’s lecture. \nPerkins retired from the U.S. Army in 2018\, after serving more than 38 years since his 1980 graduation and commission as an armor officer from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point\, N.Y. His last assignment was as commanding general of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command where he served from March 2014 until his March 2018 retirement. Prior to that assignment\, he commanded the Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth and served as commandant of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College from 2011 to 2014. Perkins also served as commander of the 4th Infantry Division from 2009-2011. In 2003\, he commanded the 2nd Brigade\, 3rd Infantry Division\, which was the first unit to cross the border during the invasion of Iraq in what has been called the “Thunder Run” into Baghdad that led to the fall of the regime. \n\nThe Colin L. Powell Lecture Series was established by CGSC and the CGSC Foundation in 2008 in honor of the legacy of Gen. Powell at Fort Leavenworth. Powell\, a former Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff\, graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College\, served at Fort Leavenworth as a Brigadier General\, and was the driving force behind the development of the Buffalo Soldier Monument that honors the service of the 9th and 10th Cavalry “Buffalo Soldiers.” \nThe intent of the Powell Lecture Series is to invite national and international distinguished personalities to provide lectures on contemporary issues to the faculty\, student body\, community and business leaders in the Eisenhower Auditorium of the Lewis and Clark Center\, Fort Leavenworth\, Kansas. \nLecturers in the series range from heads of state\, heads of government\, senior diplomats\, and other distinguished persons who could bring their unique perspectives to help educate the audience about historical or contemporary issues of importance to the nation or the international community. \nThe lecture series is sponsored by the CGSC Foundation through an endowment from TriWest Healthcare Alliance. \nFor more information contact the CGSC Foundation.
