
The Lt. Col. Michael “Scott” Flurry Award was established in 2024 in the posthumous honor of Lt. Col. Flurry. Lt Col Flurry, a United States Marine and 2021 graduate of the School of Advanced Military Studies in the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Flurry was renowned for his courageous physical and mental example, with an intellectual humility that exemplified Moltke’s charge to be “more than you appear to be.” The award recognizes the Joint graduate who best embodies the full spectrum of Scott’s legacy of academic excellence, physical strength, and superior leadership throughout the year. This award is sponsored with a permanent endowment by the CGSC Foundation through a gift from the 2021 SAMS Class.
This annual award will be presented to the SAMS student of any service branch or country in the graduating class that best exemplifies physical resiliency, a victorious mind, courageous leadership and joint warrior knowledge as determined by peers and SAMS leadership criteria.
The award itself is a KA-BAR knife on a stand with an engraved plate with the recipients name and graduating class year. The recipient of the award will be recognized during the SAMS graduation ceremony along with other awards for the class.
