Former CGSC Deputy Commandant and Foundation trustee Lt. Gen. Robert H. Forman, U.S. Army, Ret., died Jan, 26, 2015, at age 84. Forman served as the deputy commandant of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College from July 1979 through February 1981, and was a CGSC Foundation trustee from 2007 until 2013.
General Forman was also an active member of the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Association of the United States Army serving as the chapter’s chairman and leader of its membership programs and support for college ROTC programs in the Kansas City area. In 2009 he received AUSA’s highest award, the General Creighton W. Abrams Medal, for exceptional service to the U.S. Army, for his efforts to support Soldiers and families over a 36-year career of active Army service and for his many years of work in AUSA. In addition to this honor and the many other awards and decorations he received throughout his career, Forman received the 2004 Philip Pistilli Silver Veteran’s Medal presented by the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation in Kansas City for his life’s work in service to the nation and support for its Soldiers.
General Forman was born Feb. 17, 1930, graduated from Arizona State in 1951 and received his U.S. Army officer commission through the ROTC program there. Over the course of his 36-year career as an artillery officer he served as a commander, military instructor, staff officer and trainer who fought in the Korean War and served two tours in Vietnam. Notable to the Kansas City community, Forman served several tours of duty at Fort Leavenworth, including serving as the Deputy Commandant of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College from July 1979 through February 1981. He retired from active service in 1987 while serving as the Deputy Commanding General for Training at the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, then located at Fort Monroe, Va.
After retiring from active duty, Gen. Forman served as the Vice President and General Manager for the Battle Command and Training Division at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He retired from that career in August 1996.
General Forman is survived by his wife Hanna Jean, three children– Mona, Nancy and Robert– and their families.
A memorial service for Lt. Gen. Forman will be conducted at 10 a.m., Feb. 3, at the Wornall Campus of the Colonial Presbyterian Church (9500 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Mo.). A burial service with full military honors will be conducted at the Leavenworth National Cemetery (150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, Kan.) at 2:30 p.m. that afternoon. There will not be a procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his name to the Colonial Presbyterian Church.

I was sad to hear the passing of General Robert H. Forman. He was the commanding officer at Fort Dix New Jersey, where i was at basic training, (Dec 1981). Rest in peace sir.
General Forman interviewed me for a company B-4-3 command at Ft. Dix In 1982. I was stationed as a Captain at Ft Belvoir and my boss Col Harris knew MG Forman and called him to tell him I wanted a command at Ft Dix. MG Forman was a gentleman and moved his schedule to talk to me. He called HQ in DC and next thing is I had orders to command B-4-3. Best job in the world and I loved it. I am forever greatfull to MG Forman
