The Command and General Staff College Foundation was established today in the law offices of Willard B. Snyder, in Leawood, Kansas. Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Robert Arter officiated over the meeting that formally established the foundation and elected the initial Trustees of the Foundation. Other incorporators included Col. (Ret) Robert R. Ulin, who drafted the founding documents, and Col. (Ret) Willard B. Snyder. The Foundation was established to assist the College by donating funds necessary to provide the Margin of Excellence to the education and outreach programs of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC). Today, all public and private educational and research institutions require private donations to support their respective schools where public funds are either not available because of operational requirements or nor not authorized by regulation.
The CGSC Foundation, a tax-exempt, non-profit private organization, will provide financial support for symposia, conferences, lectures, and community outreach activities that help to connect the American public to their Army. Projects range from honoraria for guest speakers, faculty research, staff, faculty and student awards and research support. The first meeting of the Foundation Board of Trustees will be conducted at Fort Leavenworth, Jan. 26, 2005.
