The CGSC Foundation board of trustees conducted their fall 2024 meeting Sept. 17, in the Arnold Conference Room of the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth.
At the beginning of the meeting Col. Jason H. Rosenstrauch, the CGSC deputy commandant, deputy commanding office of the Combined Arms Center and provost of Army University, introduced himself to the members present and those joining by video conference and thanked them for their service on the board and the Foundation’s contributions to the College.
Key actions during the meeting included trustee elections, and discussion of the chair’s assessment and developing a comprehensive strategy for fundraising, grant writing and operational efficiency.
During the elections period of the meeting, Foundation Chair Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Chris Hughes and President/CEO Lora Morgan bid thank you and farewell to seven trustees who completed their terms on the board: Christopher Nixon Cox, John Herron, John Hunkeler, Mark MacCarley, Mike McCoy, Jason Peters and Clyde “Butch” Tate. Four trustees were voted unanimously to serve a second three-year term: Pete Brownell, Tim Carlin, Jim Martin, and Dwayne Wagner. Two other trustees – Farhad Azima and Terry Lillis – were approved by unanimous vote to serve a third three-year term.
The board also unanimously elected one new member, Brian Weaver, CEO of Torch AI in Kansas City.
A highlight of the election slate was the unanimous selection of Col. (Ret.) William Eckhardt, as Trustee Emeritus. Eckhardt was one of the founding trustees and had served several terms on the board over the years. Hughes also presented chairman’s awards to Terry Lillis, the board treasurer, and Gene Wilson, an emeritus trustee, for their exemplary service to the Foundation.
Later in the morning, Dr. Dave Cotter, Ph.D., the CGSC dean of academics, provided the group with an overview of the College curriculum and how it is developed to stay relevant. After his briefing, the board members had to opportunity to sit in CGSC classrooms and interact with the students and faculty.
After the classroom visits, Greg Penfield, the CGSC associate dean of academics, led the group on a tour of the Lewis and Clark Center, highlighting the history and explaining the relevance of the art and artifacts on display throughout the facility.
The meeting adjourned later in the afternoon at the completion of committee reports.
