The CGSC Foundation unveiled the newest ornament in their collection on October 21, 2025.
The Kansas Buffalo, twentieth in the series, features an American bison amid sunflowers on a Kansas prairie. The bison symbolizes strength and resilience, qualities reflected in the leaders shaped at Fort Leavenworth. Designated the Kansas state animal in 1955 and the national mammal in 2016, the bison continues to represent the enduring spirit of our nation.
The CGSC Foundation’s collection of annual ornaments began in 2006 with the release of the Lamp of Knowledge. Since then, a new design has been added each year. Some showcase historic buildings on Fort Leavenworth, such as Memorial Chapel, Grant Hall and the clocktower, or the gazebo at Zais Park. Others honor the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, School of Advanced Military Studies, and the International Military Student program. Others, like the Buffalo Soldier Monument or the Lewis and Clark Expedition, celebrate the history of Fort Leavenworth.
These ornaments are made in the United States by Beacon Design, the makers of the White House ornaments. They can be purchased at the CGSC Foundation gift shop located in Suite 1149 of the College (100 Stimson Ave., Fort Leavenworth, Kansas) or online at giftshop.cgscfoundation.org.
