InterAgency Brown-Bag Lecture focuses on space and interagency operations

The first presentation of the InterAgency Brown-Bag Lecture Series for CGSC academic year 2022 was conducted at 12:30 p.m., Sept. 21 in the Arnold Conference Room of the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth.

Mr. Thomas A. Gray, the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Liaison to the Combined Arms Center and Army University, presents the first InterAgency Brown-Bag Lecture for CGSC academic year 2022, Sept. 21, in the Arnold Conference Room of the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth.

Mr. Thomas A. Gray, the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Liaison to the Combined Arms Center and Army University, presents the first InterAgency Brown-Bag Lecture for CGSC academic year 2022, Sept. 21, in the Arnold Conference Room of the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth.

Mr. Thomas A. Gray, the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Liaison to the Combined Arms Center and Army University, discussed current and future space initiatives impacting global DoD and other government agency operations. He also reviewed government agencies primarily invested in space operations to include the new Space Development Agency, NASA, NOAA, and NRO.

More than 30 students, faculty and others attended Gray’s presentation with more than 25 stations viewing remotely via the CGSC Blackboard platform online. The presentation is now available to all resident CGSC students, officers enrolled in the CGSOC common core curriculum in the Command and General Staff School’s Department of Distance Education, and reserve component officers enrolled in CGSOC common core in the Total Army School System (TASS).

Thomas A. Gray serves as the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s liaison officer to the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Army University with responsibility for the integration of space knowledge and education across various U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Joint, and other service schools, to include the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. A retired U.S. Army officer, Mr. Gray was one of the first officers selected and designated as a space operations officer. He served in Army Space Command, the Space and Missile Defense Lab, and the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) Directorate of Combat Development. He is qualified as a Level 3 Space Professional of the U.S. Army Civilian Space Cadre, holds the space operations officer designation 3Y, and has earned the U.S. Army Master Space Badge. Mr. Gray holds a bachelor’s from New Hampshire College and earned a master’s from Central Michigan University.


The InterAgency Brown-Bag Lecture Series is co-hosted by the CGSC Foundation’s Simons Center with the U.S. Army Command and General Staff School (CGSS). The series is an extracurricular, interagency topic-focused series that is intended to help enrich the CGSS curriculum. Unless otherwise announced, the presentations are scheduled each month from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Arnold Conference Room of the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth.
