A group of Kansas City business people, university leaders and two nonprofit executives visited the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College on May 18 to participate in the Foundation’s “Walk and Talk” outreach program that focuses on educating and informing the public about Fort Leavenworth, CGSC and the CGSC Foundation.

Led by Foundation CEO Doug Tystad, the group first toured Fort Leavenworth, learning the history of the post and seeing some of the historic buildings. After the tour of the post, the group visited the Lewis and Clark Center, home of CGSC, where they learned about the history of the College through the various displays of artwork and the Fort Leavenworth and International Halls of Fame displays. They were also briefed on the international military officer program.

The last stop on their visit was in a CGSC classroom where Mark Gerges, a professor in the Department of Military History, provided them with a demonstration of the classroom technology and provided them with an overview of the professional military education provided at CGSC versus training the officers undergo at other times and locations in their careers.
