On June 20, representatives from Hallmark Cards in Kansas City, Mo., visited Fort Leavenworth and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College to learn more about the historic Army post and the College mission.

The CGSC Foundation hosted the eight visitors from Hallmark’s human resources department. Foundation CEO Doug Tystad led the group on a tour of the Fort Leavenworth post to familiarize them with the post’s long history and to take a closer look at some of the oldest buildings, which are also some of the oldest buildings in Kansas. After the post tour, Tystad took them to the Lewis and Clark Center and introduced them to CGSC Chief of Staff Jeff Lamoe. Lamoe provided them with an information brief on the Army professional education system and how CGSC fits into that process. Col. Doug Cardinale, director of the Command and General Staff School, was also present during Lamoe’s briefing and also answered many of their questions about how the Army educates and trains today’s officers.

After the briefing, Tystad led the group through a tour of the Lewis and Clark Center, explaining the significance of its various artwork displays, as well as the Hall of Fame and International Hall of Fame displays as a means to increase the group’s awareness of CGSC history.

One of the stops during the tour of the Lewis and Clark Center was a standard CGSC classroom where faculty member Michelle Miller demonstrated the capabilities of CGSC’s high-tech classrooms.
