Randy and Tyler Reed from Reed Automotive Group in Kansas City, took part in the Foundation’s “Walk and Talk” program Nov. 10. They were joined in the visit by Kevin Koster, CEO of Skopós, a marketing and advertising firm in Kansas City, and Shawn Wesner, a grants writer for the Simons Center. The Reeds both served their country in the military. – Randy served in the Air Force and Tyler served in the Army after graduating from West Point.

The group’s visit began with the usual tour of the larger Fort Leavenworth post led by Foundation CEO Doug Tystad. They learned about the post’s long history and visited some of the older buildings on the post, which they learned are also some of the oldest buildings in Kansas. After the post tour, Tystad brought the group to the Lewis and Clark Center, home of the Command and General Staff College. They looked at the building’s architecture and design, including Eisenhower Auditorium, which is one of the largest auditoriums in Kansas. Tystad walked them through the atrium area, providing a short history lesson through the CGSC lens. – They saw the Fort Leavenworth Hall of Fame, the International Hall of Fame, and the gallery of historic paintings.

After the walk-through of the building, the group visited with Jeff Lamoe, CGSC chief of staff, who provided them with an “Army 101” briefing. They also met with Dr. Jack Kem, a professor in CGSC’s Department of Joint, Interagency and Multinational Operations, who discussed the College curriculum, the makeup of the classes and the technological capabilities of the classrooms in detail.
