Dr. Jim Willbanks, CGSC’s General of the Army George C. Marshall Chair of Military History, is offering a new brown-bag lecture series beginning Wednesday, Feb. 22, from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Arnold Conference Room of the Lewis and Clark Center on Fort Leavenworth. The lectures are free and open to the public. Attendees are invited to bring their lunches into the room for the presentations.

The first lecture, “An Overview of the Chinese Civil War, 1927-1949,” will be presented by CGSC professor Dr. Geoff Babb. During his presentation, Babb will examine the key political-ideological, diplomatic and military aspects of the civil war in China from the Shanghai Massacre in 1927 to Mao Zedong’s announcement of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in October 1949. This event presaged America’s involvement in two Asia land wars over the next 25 years.

Members of the public (those without a DoD-issued ID card) coming to the lecture from off-post will need to add extra time to check-in at the Fort Leavenworth visitor center. – For visitor information, see http://garrison.leavenworth.army.mil/index.php/myfort/services/services/gate-information.
