“The Baan Thai Restaurant is part of a collection of small businesses working to provide assistance to those in our community who are severely impacted by the economic shutdown as a result of the coronavirus,” said Foundation President/CEO Rod Cox. “Owners Col. (Ret.) Pat Proctor and his wife Aree have set up their restaurant as the drop-off location in Leavenworth for food aid, paper products and cleaning supplies for distribution to needy families in Leavenworth, Atchinson and Kansas City, Kansas.”

According to Proctor, the group distributes the goods every Thursday and has a Facebook page where those in need can find out the locations and times. – https://www.facebook.com/groups/204383050794886 Proctor said people can get supplies free and do not need to provide income information or fill out an application. He said it’s simply “neighbors helping neighbors.”

“The CGSC Foundation is especially proud of Pat and Aree,” said Cox. “Pat is one of our trustees and retired as a colonel from Fort Leavenworth, so he’s part of our family. We’re grateful to him and his wife for stepping up to help those in need in our community. Certainly their restaurant has always been a great place to eat, but their willingness to get involved in an effort like this shows their true value and provides a great example for all of us to follow.”

Proctor said individuals and businesses that wish to donate can drop off their goods during regular business hours at Baan Thai (301 S. 4th St., Leavenworth). Contributions can include monetary donations, dry goods, paper products, or cleaning supplies – all are greatly appreciated.

Proctor and his wife Aree arrived in Leavenworth in January 2006 for him to attend the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. They bought the Baan Thai Restaurant almost immediately and renovated and reopened it in February 2006 with great success. They moved to the current, larger location in 2008 and have since expanded, opening locations in Manhattan and Lawrence, Kansas. For more information visit www.baanthaikansas.com.
