On Sept. 16 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, the CGSC Foundation, in partnership with the Greater Kansas City Chapter of People to People and Operation International from the Leavenworth/Lansing (KS) Area Chamber of Commerce, hosted the third annual “Celebration of International Friendship” in honor of the 2016-2017 class of international military officers studying at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. 112 officers from 86 countries are in the current class that began Aug. 9.
Speakers included the master of ceremonies, KMBC-TV’s Rob Hughes (Kansas City/ABC) who is also an infantry officer in the Army National Guard; and Mary Jean Eisenhower, granddaughter of President Eisenhower and CEO of People to People International. People to People was recognized as it celebrated its 60th anniversary. Special welcome messages were delivered by Ed Eilert, Chairman, Johnson County (Kansas) Board of Commissioners, and Brig. Gen. John S. Kem, Deputy Commandant, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Jim Fain, director of the International Military Student Division of CGSC, introduced the international officers and Cadets from the West Point Glee Club (U.S. Military Academy at West Point) provided the musical entertainment for the evening.
