Honor Purple Heart Recipients Past and Present

Honor Purple Heart Recipients Past and Present

On August 7, we honor Purple Heart recipients who walk among us…and we also remember all those that have gone before.

The Purple Heart has been awarded in one form or another in recognition of merit since the 1780s, and now honors those wounded on the battlefield or who lost their lives in service of our Nation.

The CGSC Foundation would like to recognize and honor all Purple Heart recipients today – those still with us and those who have gone on before us.

If you have the opportunity and ability, we encourage everyone to thank a Purple Heart recipient for their sacrifice or to sponsor a wreath of remembrance in their honor through Wreaths Across America.

The CGSC Foundation partnered with Wreaths Across America in 2020, and in 2021 the CGSC Foundation has redoubled its efforts to remember and honor our fallen veterans interred at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.

The Foundation’s goal is to honor each of the 900 veterans buried in Section N of the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, with a larger goal of helping place a wreath on every grave – more than 23,000 – in the cemetery.

Foundation President/CEO Col. (Ret.) Roderick Cox has said, “It’s more than a wreath…it’s an effort to impress upon all Americans the importance of the sacrifices of veterans in this country.”
