Welcome CGSC Class of 2016

On behalf of the CGSC Foundation, we welcome the new students of the Class of 2016 to the Command and General Staff College at beautiful and historic Fort Leavenworth. We congratulate you on your selection for CGSC. You’ve crossed the hurdle of getting here because of your service to date– well done. I don’t have to tell you that a lot will be expected of you during this year and into the future so use your time wisely.

CGSC is your opportunity to learn, read, discuss and debate your chosen profession with a much wider peer group than you’ve probably experienced. I think you’ll find that you will learn and refine skills and capabilities that you’ll use the rest of your life. While the term “best year of your life” may seem a bit of an exaggeration at this point, I hope you’ll find on reflection in the future that your time here was time exceptionally well spent.

Let me talk a bit about the CGSC Foundation, Inc., which will soon celebrate its tenth year of dedicated service to the College. We provide support with programs and funds in those areas that government funding is normally not available. We believe we enhance the academic experience for our students and faculty; we help connect Americans to their Army and the College; and we enrich the lives of our Soldiers and their families. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education foundation, we receive all of our funding through the generosity of committed individual, corporate, and foundation donors. On our website and in our Foundation News magazine, you will find our schedule of programs and events.

I invite you to participate in our programs throughout the year; feedback from previous graduates is that these programs add richness to their total Leavenworth experience. I also invite you to visit us at the Foundation office and gift shop located on the west end of the first floor near the food court and barber shop. We have some unique gift items to remind you of your time spent at Leavenworth. I also solicit your feedback on how we’re doing and what more we could do to enhance your education.

Enjoy your time at CGSC. You’re going to stay busy so remember that balance is important. Use your time wisely to prepare yourself for your future which we hope will be very bright.
