The Command and General Staff College Foundation Board of Trustees met today to elect their governing body and learn more about the College and its programs. LTG (Ret) Robert Arter (Civilian Aid to the Secretary of the Army) was elected Chairman of the Board. Other officers included Mr. Thomas Holcom (President of Pioneer Financial) who was elected Foundation President; MG (Ret) Raymond Barrett (Vice Pres. HNTB Construction) was elected Vice President; Ms. Cathleen Dodson Macauley (Chair and CEO of the Dodson Group Holding Company) was elected Treasurer, and COL (Ret) Willard Snyder (President of the Real Estate Corporation) was elected General Counsel.
Each Trustee received a letter from LTG David Petraeus, the Commandant of the College, thanking them for their interest in the College. LTG Petraeus could not attend because of a prior commitment. BG Volney “Jim” Warner, the Deputy Commandant welcomed the Trustees and provided an overview of the College organization and mission. Trustees took a walking tour of Bell and Eisenhower Halls. COL Kevin Benson, Director of the School for Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) provided an overview of his school and Mr. Lynn Rolf briefed the Trustees on the Lewis and Clark Educational Center to be completed in July 2007.
The CGSC Foundation was established as a tax-exempt, non-profit private organization to assist the College by donating funds necessary to provide the Margin of Excellence to the education and outreach programs of the US Army Command and General Staff College. Programs supported by the Foundation will include financial support for symposia, conferences, lectures, and community outreach activities that help to connect the American public to their Army. Projects range from honoraria for guest speakers, faculty research, staff, faculty and student awards and research support.
The CGSC Foundation will assume the mission of the CGSC Alumni Association and will establish its office in Bell Hall.
