In 2023, events in the Middle East included the capture of Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan after decades of conflict with Armenia, the U.S. Air Force shoot down of a Turkish drone sent to attack Kurdish forces in Syria making it the first ever NATO on NATO military engagement, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Israel looked to be on the brink of an historic accord, and Hamas attacked Israel with a savage attack killing more than a thousand civilians that led to the Israeli response flattening Gaza City and killing thousands and maybe tens of thousands of Palestinians. Several of these events came after the National Security Advisor to the President of the United States claimed the Middle East was the quietest it had been in decades. Whether quiet or loud, the Middle East always needs our informed attention. Like the Eagle’s 1976 song, “Hotel California,” we can checkout of the Middle East, but we can never leave. This presentation of the Forum by Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Steed, Ph.D., will provide keys to developing the information to understand how to interpret what one sees or reads about the region.

This event is only open to members of the ARNSF. If you are not a member but are interested in joining, contact Bob Ulin at rulin@cgscf.org.
