On Dec. 19, 2020, the CGSC Foundation participated in the annual laying of wreaths on veterans’ graves in the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission – Remember, Honor, Teach – is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.
The CGSC Foundation joined Wreaths Across America this year in the hopes of honoring every veteran in the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery with a wreath during this holiday season.
“I strongly believe in the importance of honoring veterans in this way,” said CGSC Foundation President/CEO Rod Cox. “The Foundation is honored to have been able to pitch in this year and we will continue to participate in this program in 2021.”
Cox added that Foundation supporters who sponsored wreaths through the Foundation’s Wreaths Across America website were responsible for honoring 91 veterans. The goal is to increase that in 2021.
“There are more than 22,000 interred veterans at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery,” said Cox. “We think it would be extremely special to honor each and every one of them next year. We fell short of that this year, but with other partners in the program we plan to step it up for 2021.”

The Foundation will begin wreath sponsorships for 2021 after the new year.
