Simons Center hosts third InterAgency Brown-Bag Lecture

November 8 was a busy day for everyone at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC). Not only was yesterday election day, but that afternoon the Simons Center and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff School (CGSS) hosted their third InterAgency Brown-Bag Lecture.

Dr. John G. Breen, CGSC Commandant’s Distinguished Chair for National Intelligence Studies and the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) Representative to the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, led a discussion on the CIA’s roles and missions. Breen began his discussion by comparing the role of government agents in movies, television, and literature to the role agents play in real-world missions, to the disappointment of a few in the audience. Breen went on to review the founding of the CIA and the part the agency has played in important world events in recent history, including installing Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi.

After his presentation, Breen answered questions from the audience, which included 50 CGSC faculty, staff, and students, as well as other military members and students from local colleges.

The InterAgency Brown-Bag Lecture Series is an extracurricular, interagency topic-focused series that is intended to help enrich the CGSS curriculum. The next lecture in the series will be held in the Arnold Conference Room of the Lewis and Clark Center on December 13, from 12:30pm to 1:30pm, and will feature Larry Hisle, Executive Director of the Greater Kansas City Federal Executive Board.
